LEARN ABOUT THE PROCESS

I use a variety of techniques in fabricating this line of work and every component of these pieces is handmade (with the exception of the Italian-made chains that accompany them). The designs are original, first sketched out on paper, then used to make patterns and stencils that are transferred to the material. Almost everything begins as a piece of sheet metal and is cut, filed, shaped and sanded entirely by hand. Some pieces have textured components that are embossed using a manually powered rolling mill that actually transfers the pattern of another material onto the metal in relief. Others are hammered to create facets that catch the light. Once the fabrication is complete, I often use a patina to oxidize the metals to give an antique look that enhances and highlights texture in the metal. Each piece is then waxed and polished to help protect the finish.

I believe in utilizing materials that are as environmentally responsible as possible in every aspect of my practice- from the metal, tools and equipment involved in fabricating these pieces, to the supplies used to pack and ship your order. At times this can be a challenge (and sometimes impacts what I choose to make), but being a small business with limited production also allows me to really pay attention to all the details. Every step makes a difference, but there is always more to do.
